Marcia lived with her son Henry and his wife Karen the last 9 years of her life. Henry wrote the following obituary. Karen is the owner of The Equipper website.
Marcia was born at home on August 26, 1920, in the town Big Piney, Wyoming, where her father was a banker. they moved to San Diego in 1924 due to her father’s health. Marcia married Elmer Kogler on April 7, 1940 at Grace Lutheran Church in San Diego. they had four children and much extended family in th area. She enjoyed being a hostess and surrounding herself with family and friends.
Marcia became a full-time caregiver to Elmer after his stroke in 1973. After his death in 1986, she cared for other relatives as well. She continued to be involved with her considerable network of family and friends. She had a special ability to make each one of them feel loved and valued. She called them her “treasures.”
Marcia loved her Lord and Savior first and foremost. That love overflowed into all her relationships and life. She lived to serve others and loved every opportunity to give of herself. She had a special heart for children and had an infectious sense of fun which endeared her to all her grandchildren. She was in prayer daily for every one of her family and friends. She kept a copy of her prayer list near the kitchen table and another on her treadmill in the basement. She read her Bible daily and marked her favorite passages with notes and even stickers in the margins.
A spotless kitchen was Marcia’s pride and joy. She was always ready for a new adventure, loved to have company, and kept busy. She was walking with her walker around around the block visitng her neighborhood friends until the last few weeks of her life. Her legacy is her family, her energy, her selflessness, and her faith. She is remembered by her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 22 great-greandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
