New Volunteers through New Roles

 Want more volunteers in your church? Consider creating new volunteer roles. Just because people aren’t signing up for publicized volunteer needs doesn’t mean they aren’t willing to give their time and talent to opportunities that match their skills, interests and schedule.

Rich Kirkpatrick related an incident that occurred when he attended a conference at Saddleback, Pastor Rick Warren’s mega-church in southern California. At a nearby coffee shop he met an employee who was a Saddleback member. She was eager to talk about her church, but she didn’t mention their celebrity pastor. Networking: We need each other!

Churches often exist in silos. Perhaps aware of what's going on in neighboring churches, or in parts of their own denomination, but most churches exist in their own world, especially when it comes to figuring out the challenges of volunteerism issues.
Let's not accept that as a given. I've seen the encouragement and growth that comes when people who care about church volunteerism share their joys and their challenges. I'd love to see a network of these people, pastors and lay, staff and volunteers, from churches large and small of any denomination, meeting via zoom 4 or 5 times a year to share best practices in healthy church volunteerism.
